Perception of time

I was watching Contact on FX yesterday, and I came to believe that we actually allow time to flow by. What I mean is that we perceive, and therefore we know, time as something that is not controllable and that it is natural for us to age and eventually face deaths. However, what if we do’t perceive it as such? That is, what if we perceive time as something that we can control; that we can stop ourselves from aging?

This theory has been out already, I believe, but mine is a little different. That is, simply by knowing our concept of time, we are passing it on to others. We apply time to ourselves, and the others know this by observing us (children, for example). So they assimilate this concept and apply it to themselves.

A good example would be when time seems to go by very slowly when you are bored or alone, but it seems to go by very fast when you are having fun or concentrated on something. It all depends on how we perceive time and not what we perceive time to be.

In order to control time, not only you have to totally abandon our concept of time but we all need to do the same as a single entity. Le’s say that ‘m able to abandon the concept of time, then I would need the rest of the world to do so, too, because ‘m in it and also because the others know that I exist within their concept of time. In another word, time is not controllable, at least not in our lifetime but maybe after 1000 years or so when our brains develop into something more than mere brains.

:D

You should read “Einstein’s Dreams” by Alan Lightman - I think you would enjoy it. It’s all about concepts of time.
