Back to VoIP
August 26th, 2006 @ 6:47 PM in EtceteraOver a year ago, my family was using VoIP for about 4 months; however, I was having disconnection issues with my DSL, so I had to cancel the service. Now that my DSL has been fixed by replacing the entire copper between the Central Office and my place, we’re back to using VoIP agaiin. I signed up with BroadVoice again as its Unlimited World Plus plan is very good — mainly for my mother.
All of her siblings are in South Korea, so now she can call them for however she wants to without watching the clock and worrying about the costs. Also, my brother lives in Hawaii with his wife and kids, so this eliminates our long-distance charges, too. For people like us with families and friends all over the world, VoIP can cut our phone bills significantly.
However, you do need a very stable broadband (>256k) connection and a little bit of a geeky side as you’ll need to understand how everything works in order to keep it functioning. Oh, you’ll also need a good router like this if you do online gaming and/or P2P.
