EntreCard: The New Supply & Demand System

April 9th, 2008 @ 5:22 PM in Rants, Web Stuffs

If you’re a member of EntreCard, you may have noticed their new “supply & demand” system. Otherwise, they now calculate the cost of your ad space by multiplying each of the requests in the queue by 2; e.g., if there are 5 requests, it’s calculated as 2*2*2*2*2 or simply 2^5 which is 32.  So when an ad finishes, the cost becomes half of 32 unless another request comes in.  As you can imagine, most popular blogs would benefit from this new system if — and only if — people are willing to invest more of their lives (time) to pay for them.  Those popular ones now cost over 10,000!  It was getting difficult to find blogs to advertise on even before this change… it’s almost impossible now!

To make this work, they’d have to increase the credit per drop to maybe 5.

Do you like the new system?  I sure don’t. :|

I pulled it off my blog today. While power dropping wasn’t a good way to price an ad this new method is much worse. It would have been better for people to set their own advertising price.

I think people are jumping the gun a little bit with the new pricing system. It clearly says in the entrecard blog that the new pricing system needs a few days to work itself out. Entrecard has definitely done me more good than bad so I’m sticking around to see what happens.

In my opinion, the number of drops you received the day before should have been the cost.

The formula will remain the same even after a few days, so I don’t think it will “settle” down. And if you do simple a “cost/benefit” analysis, it’s even more unfair now.

i really hope it will definite benefit us (members) for the new system….well, changes are usually harsh during the initial process but then good effects come up after sometime..

i hope this is what will happen in this EC’s new system..

Nope, I do not like the new system at all. My favorite blogs have very unrealistic prizes :(

I don’t know what to think about the new system. But, I’m willing to wait it out as it has done my blogs a world of good concerning traffic.

Annie » I sure hope so, but I highly doubt that it will as long as the formula stays the same.

Sandra » Exactly, no one can afford them anymore.

Kim » Same here… but all good things come to an end.

Hey, we can still use EntreCard as a social networking tool right? ;)
It is still good for that. :D

Deimos Tel`Arin » Yeah, I’m going to leave it for people to drop their cards, but I’m not gonna invest more of my time.

Oh by the way, I forgot to mention that I am not very fond of the new pricing system.

    Anyway,

Michael > At least you can still reciprocate the drops on folks that you would like to network with, right? ;)

Deimos Tel`Arin » Yup, that’s exactly what I’ve been doing.

I didn’t like the change in the ad pricing system either. I’d prefer the old ad pricing system, since those ad prices are much more depictive of how popular a site really is.

I am going to ride it out for a while to see how it plays out. I have come across some great new blogs that I read on a frequent basis now so I am not going to give it up on just a whim.

I don’t like the new system either. I understand that they needed to do something to make it a little more fair to those websites who are highly ranked in the search engines. (Last week, I advertised on John Chows website for 182 credits and this week there is no way I could come even close to having enough credits. ) However, the way the calculate the credits now it just seems like it’s out of control. Back to the drawing board…

Back to the drawing board for sure…

Daniel » Wait a few days, it will drop to 2ec!
