Outdated Philosophy
July 18th, 2008 @ 12:45 PM in Life Stuffs, RantsThe ol’ man’s so-called philosophy is “don’t fix it if it ain’t broken.” Well, I can tell you that it costs a lot of money.
His car is leaking water this time. The thing is that he never takes it in for regular maintenance, and he doesn’t do it himself, either. He doesn’t even want us to take mine in once or twice a year. Mine has a wheelchair ramp, and I’ll be stuck if it breaks down. It’s not like I can take a regular bus. It doesn’t hurt to plan ahead, right?
He was a driver in the Korean military for freakin’ 3 years, and he studied mechanics in high school. You’d think he’d know a thing or two about cars, eh? Nope, he knows shit about cars.
His life is just like that: No plans whatsoever. ![]()

Wow, that’s quite a bad philosophy indeed.

Julie » The repair cost us $290. That’s a big chunk of my paycheck.

I think it’s your father, and not the philosophy, that is outdated though. “If it works don’t fix it” makes A LOT of sense in IT
Takes a couple of years to learn, though.

Sigg3 » Even in IT, it’s a pretty dangerous way of thinking. Even if something is working, you gotta apply patches when they come out; otherwise, you risk security.

Ah, but then it doesn’t work

hahaha… it’s his way of life. i think he’s confident enough that he knows his way around cars
he can fix it anytime it has a trouble
he’s carefree and i think you’re kind of control freak (no offense, it’s just a thought)
it’s a difference of personality
yeah, u are right. maintenance is impt.
in my case… i do have regular check-ups
it’s better than one day you realize you’ve got only one day to live because you’re terribly ill

pchi » He cannot fix it, that’s the problem. It usually costs hundreds of dollars when something major breaks.
