Psychologists are generally medical professionals who are involved and connected to social sciences and research. These individuals usually fall under two kinds,
namely scientists or practitioners. These two do not limit the science and can be expanded into something else entirely. The entire science is a mesh of other sciences which may be connected to it in some way or another. therapist lafayette la
Scientists
These types of psychologists are those who do research into the many different aspects of the human being. Professionals who fall under this category are not limited to it. Some like to do research and at the same time practice their field. There are many different aspects of the human being that a psychologist can do research in. The following may be included in the research but not limited to them; perception, motivation, attention, personality, brain function, relationships and many others. Scientists have so many aspects of the human behavior that they want to learn about that the research can go on and on. Empirical methods are often used to determine relationships between several variables. These variables can be anything under the sun.
The knowledge gained from research can also be applied to day to day life as well as solving behavioral problems in human beings. Psychologists who practice by treating and addressing the many mental health issues that their clients have can make use of the knowledge.
Practitioners
Those who excel in the field of psychology by literally practicing it are those who teach it and those who treat individuals with mental health issues. They often make use of the research made on certain aspects of human behavior and apply these in teaching or treatments. Professionals who teach and research at the same time are not few and they are very involved with the research as they teach what they have gleaned from it. Basically, the knowledge gleaned act as the bases for many other researches and theories which are, in turn, studied.
There is a big difference between psychiatry and psychology, in spite of the fact that both fields are aimed at treating and researching human behavior. Psychiatrists are professionals who are actually medically licensed to practice in their field and thus rely on medications to solve mental health issues as well as employ some form of psychotherapy. In contrast, psychologists seldom use medications to actually treat the problem but instead employ self analyzing methods that encourage the patient to resolve the problem. This is just one of the vast differences between the two fields.
